Topics : The Social Affairs Ministry hosted a virtual event to celebrate the 24th National Day for Elderly People on Friday.”The celebration was conducted virtually to comply with physical-distancing procedures amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” the ministry’s social rehabilitation director general, Harry Hikmat, said as quoted by Antara.During the event, the ministry pushed for a revision of Law No. 13/1998 on elderly welfare, which is regarded as outdated and needing to be improved to accommodate the problems encountered by elderly people nowadays. A 2015 report from the United Nations, titled “World Population Ageing”, projected that the number of people 60 years old and above in the country would reach 39 million in 2030, 13.2 percent of the population, and 61.8 million in 2050, 19.2 percent. Many senior citizens live with their families, some of them have the potential for being abused behind closed doors, however such cases remain unreported. The World Health Organization estimates that up to 80 percent of cases of elder abuse are not reported. The government has made efforts to provide legal protection, as stipulated in Law No. 23/2004 on the elimination of domestic violence as well as Law No. 13/1998 on elderly welfare. However, there are few details on the implementation of these laws.Law No. 23/2004 prohibits negligence of the elderly within the household, while Law No. 13/1998 states that the family are responsible for the welfare of the elderly. However, neither law includes details on rights for the elderly or the protection of their interests and intentions. (vny) Harry hoped that the revised law could be included in this year’s priority legislation list (Prolegnas). In addition to that, the ministry also paid special attention to the elderly by providing them with various kinds of social assistance, including staple-food packages and cash aid.Indonesia has over 23 million senior citizens.Read also: COVID-19 kills elderly, haunts the young in Indonesia

Jose Mourinho was spotted in the stands as RB Leipzig took on Bayern Munich in a German table-topper Tottenham are reportedly ready to sell Eric Dier in the summer transfer window, with Aston Villa showing interest in the player. Dier has struggled to break into the Spurs side this season, although he seen more game time since Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in north London. The 26-year-old was tipped to leave the club in January, with Villa strongly linked with a move for the England international. Dier’s current contract is due to expire in 2021 and he is reluctant to put pen to paper on a new deal over a lack of game time. The Daily Mail reports that unless Dier is willing to commit his future to the club, he will be sold in the summer. Spurs are keen to avoid a situation whereby the midfielder enters the final stages of his contract and could only command a significantly reduced transfer fee or leave on a free at the end of it. A woman was left in tears this morning in Letterkenny when custom officers arrived at her place of work and seized a car she had been using. The woman, who did not wish to be named, hit out at heavy-handed officials who swooped on the Letterkenny Retail Park’s car park just before noon. The officers were accompanied by two men in a recovery truck, used to tow away the Northern Ireland-registered Ford. “They shouldn’t have taken the car,” the woman told Donegal Daily.“The car belongs to my boyfriend. It is taxed in the North, it is insured in his name in the North and it is tested. The car is completely all above board.“They even damaged the front and back bumper when they were trying to put it on the lorry.” The area was a hive of Friday activity as onlookers and shoppers watched the incident unfolding.“I was at work and I was just going out to do shopping at the time. They were very cheeky to me and told me they would be calling the guards. It was very heavy-handed of them to do that, landing to my work like that.”Woman’s anger as ‘heavy-handed’ customs swoop to seize car in busy Letterkenny carpark was last modified: September 3rd, 2017 by Chris McNultyShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:CUSTOMSletterkennyLetterkenny Retail ParkNOrthern Ireland
