Mikel may consider moving to Egyptian Premier League

first_imgFormer Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has left the door open for a potential move to the Egyptian Premier League in the future. Mikel  The 33-year-old is a free agent after ending his contract with Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor by mutual agreement in March. Mikel quit the Black Sea Storm after expressing his fears over playing football amid the coronavirus pandemic. He was recently linked with a move to Brazilian side Botafogo who showed interest to sign him but the ex-Tianjin Teda captain claimed he was yet to make a final decision. During a chat with Egyptian media outfit OnTime Sports, the two-time English Premier League winner was quizzed about a potential move to the Egyptian top-flight. “Playing in the Egyptian Premier League? Why not?” said Mikel as reported by Kingfut.Advertisement “I am a professional footballer and everything is possible. I never ruled anything out. “My goal is to continue playing football, and I hope I will have the opportunity, I do not reject any offers made to me, but rather study them well until I make the right decision.” Mikel left Chelsea after more than 10 seasons at Stamford Bridge. There, he made 374 appearances and won eight major domestic honours and two European trophies. NFL teams rely on tape with virus altering pre-draft routine

(AP) — Let’s go to the tape.NFL teams are having to rely more heavily on game film of college prospects as they prepare for the draft at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has halted business as usual across the globe. The social distancing spawned by the new coronavirus has halted pro timing days at college campuses. It’s also led the league to forbid teams from hosting prospects at team headquarters or visiting them for in-person interviews, meetings that are usually such an integral part of the annual evaluations that they can make or break a franchise’s fortunes. April 1, 2020 “He was a transfer there from Tennessee and he had a little bit of a baggage background,” Dorrell said. “But when I met the kid we had a great conversation at the combine, we continued to stay in contact with each other, I continued to do my research with coaches both at Tennessee and at Colorado State. “And you know we felt that we got a steal, to make a long story short, when we were able to pick him up as an undrafted free agent in Miami last year,” Dorrell said. “If you don’t dive into the information like that, you tend to miss a lot of things.” As Elway prepares for a draft unlike any other, he said a radical decision Fangio made this spring is paying unexpected dividends as the team builds its draft board for the April 23-25 selection process.Fangio didn’t take his assistant coaches to the combine in Indianapolis at the end of February and instead had them work remotely back in Denver evaluating players at their respective positions.“It helped us tremendously, I think,” Elway said. “Vic had the coaches stay home from the combine and spend one full week on the draft so all the coaches got all of their reports in on the players in this year’s draft. Those are the best telltale signs of making your evaluation,” Dorrell said.And, Dorrell said, that holds true whether it’s an NFL assistant assessing college talent as he once did or a college coach checking out a high school prospect as he’s doing now.“I’d rather see the person to evaluate a person. When I was in the NFL evaluating receivers, the combine’s fine, but that’s a group setting and you’re not really getting specific information that you need,” Dorrell said. “I would get more out of when I went back to that particular student-athlete’s university and worked him out and got him on the board and we talked football and we did all these different things.”A recent example he pointed to was former Colorado State receiver Preston Williams, whose off-the-field issues kept him from getting drafted last year.Williams signed with Miami after getting bypassed in the seven-round draft and had 32 catches for 428 yards and three touchdowns before a knee injury cut short his sensational rookie season. “A lot of times you can guess how fast a guy runs, generally speaking. It’s more important what the tape says.”Less than an hour’s drive from the Broncos’ headquarters, new University of Colorado football coach Karl Dorrell is lamenting how FaceTime has replaced face time with his players because of the shelter-in-place and stay-at-home orders that have been issued amid the pandemic.While emphasizing that these measures are what’s most important to curtail the spread of the virus, Dorrell, who left his job as the Miami Dolphins receivers coach to take over at Colorado following Mel Tucker’s departure in February, said truer evaluations are made in person.“Tape kind of gives you an idea, but from my experience, it’s getting your hands on the players on the grass,” Dorrell said. “That’s when you know what you have. You can kind of feel their movement, their explosiveness, their lack thereof, anything that are important ingredients for you to make an assessment.”That’s why he’s so eager for normalcy to return, so that he can get up-close looks at the roster he inherited. “So, I actually feel pretty good about where we are. With the draft staying where it is, it is fine. Dave Hammond: Having had the opportunity to view SBTech from the outside and see their successes across Europe and the US markets, the chance to join this company was not one I could really pass on. I was fortunate to know and previously work with some of the SBTech management team, so I already knew the quality of the people in place. Once I met key team members across its many offices and saw the platform capabilities and product suite, there was only one option in the industry for me to consider and subsequently become part of the success.SBC: What are your immediate ambitions and plans for 2019 with SBTech?DH: Firstly, it’s key to understand SBTech has already had huge success with its innovative platform and agile culture. SBTech will benefit from my experience in these areas.SBC: How different will the transition from Paddy Power to SBTech be for you?DH: The business structure and operating models are completely different, but overall the industry and people are very similar. SBTech is market leading in scaling operations and country entry. This flexibility is something I have always had an affinity towards, but what I get enthusiastic about is our capabilities. The fact SBTech is privately owned and we move quickly on solid data points is part of our fabric. This differentiates us from every provider / operator in the industry, and the ability to see returns from tactical decisions within the overarching strategy is very refreshing.SBC: What are the main challenges SBTech currently faces and how will you address these?DH: I believe everything can be improved in any business, but SBTech is strong across the board. We have invested heavily in quality and quantity in every area from people, technology, infrastructure through to marketing, support and, of course, product. In short, we must innovate and deliver. It’s still very early for the US marketplace and constant regulation movement across EMEA all provides huge opportunities. In five years I expect SBTech to increase its dominance in our current markets, and to serve new products to a wider portfolio of clients in numerous newly regulated and regulating territories.SBC: SBTech is preparing to enter the French market in Q1 2019. How important is this for SBTech and where else will SBTech be venturing in 2019?DH: France is one of Europe’s most mature regulated markets and will be another key territory for our existing customers as well as winning new deals. The SBTech culture is one of winning and driving expansion. Our constant ability to launch partners into new markets has been at the core of the business for more than 10 years, and this will continue and expand further. The PASPA repeal of 2018 and US betting opportunity is on every supplier and operator’s strategy paper. SBTech are already there and have partners live and in development across multiple states and will continue to deliver product and innovation into the newly formed and exciting market. That said, we have a very large and demanding pipeline of European partners, with France, Sweden and Portugal to name just a few, all holding established and well documented opportunities. SBTech’s key skill is moving at pace with a quality regionalised product, we will continue to this in all markets which can offer revenue increase for our partners and of course SBTech.“It would be naïve to think that by the end of 2023 current products and player behaviours would not have changed in a quantum measure”SBC: Do you think online sports betting will change over the next few years? Do you think sports betting needs to change? If so, why and how will you adapt?DH: It would be naïve to think that by the end of 2023 current products and player behaviours would not have changed in a quantum measure from where we the offering is today. The betting industry and especially SBTech’s multi territory operations, has such a volume of data which will allow us to expand data scientist teams creating AI and ML projects which will transform the way we create and morph our offerings.Consumer technology and available data points within sports will continuously develop. This means the richness of product offering will have to expand to keep our customers engaged in betting while enjoying the sports experience. This is a key focus for SBTech to continue to lead in this area and drive the market depth and customer interaction of our offering.
