Man gets 2 years after confessing to $1.1M robbery

first_imgA man was jailed for two years by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday afternoon after he admitted to a $1.1 million robbery carried out in the North West District (NWD).Steve Williams admitted that he used a gun to rob Deneisha Stoll of three ounces of raw gold along with cash and cosmetics valued $1.1 million, belonging to Shauntel Benjamin.The robbery reportedly occurred on November 23, 2018 at Bamboo Landing, NWD.Williams also confessed to having a 9mm pistol along with one live round of ammunition in his possession on November 24, 2018 at Hell Hill, NWD without being the holder of a licence for same.In addition to the jail sentence, he was fined $50,000.last_img read more

WB to send team to Nepal to coordinate rescue of missing

first_imgmountaineersKolkata, May 23 (PTI) West Bengal government is sending a team of officials to Nepal for co-ordinating the rescue operations of two mountaineers from the state, who had reportedly gone missing at Mount Everest.Trinamool Congress legislator and outgoing Sports, Housing and Youth Affairs minister Arup Biswas said a three-membered team led by S A Baba, Principal Secretary of youth affairs department, will leave from Kolkata tomorrow.He said that the body of another mountaineer Subash Paul, who had reached 8,849-metre summit on Saturday but collapsed while descending the Hillary Step ice wall, will be brought to the state and the government will extend all required support to his family.Biswas said the team will try to co-ordinate the rescue operations of both Paresh Nath and Goutam Ghosh, who have gone missing.The government has also started a control room in the state secretariat where the families of those missing can call, seeking information.West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi condoled the death of Pal saying, “He conquered highest peak of the world and died a heros death while returning. He will remain an inspiration to the adventure loving youth of West Bengal”.He also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and innumerable admirers.
